iPhone Ringtones

image One of the first things that I wanted to do on my iPhone was update the default ringtone. I noticed in iTunes there was a ringtones folder in the library sections. Never really noticed it before probably because I had no use for ringtones in iTunes previously. Tried dragging in some songs… No dice :( Had a bit of a Google and found that people were having the same troubles with the original iPhone. Seems Apple have tried to make an extra buck by making you purchase your songs as ringtones as opposed to just being allowed to drag them in! Being in Australia our iTunes store currently doesn’t support ringtones… But there is a solution! After some searching I found a nice little app called “iPhoneRingToneMaker” (Obvious name I know :) ) This little program lets you drop in the song you want to convert into a ring tone. Simply select the part of the song and dumps it into iTunes ready to sync to your iPhone!

As you can see, I have RickRolled my ringtone :) You can also go into the advanced options, set fade out times, Compress it for those older songs. Very nice tool. Currently the developer Efiko Software are selling it 1/2 price at US$7.50! Although Apple may break this in future releases of iTunes for the above price it is worth the risk, especially if the catch up speed of the Australian iTunes store is anything to go by…

There’s a full tutorial on http://www.outerspaceringtones.com telling you how to upload ringtones to the iphone. I’ve tested it, it totally works. (plus there’s a load of free ringtones on the site…)
